Parrish Medical Center Project

By Jason Frederick, President SCAS

Chris Fox of Parrish Medical Center in Port St. John has contacted our chapter in the hopes we might form a partnership to bring education and the unique beauty of nature to their medical center. We are looking for a team of volunteers to help out on this amazing project. If you have some free time and would like to help out, please contact me at 321-449-9678 or at heyyoukidd@yahoo.com .

The projects that we need help on are:

  • Butterfly Garden
    • Breaking ground
    • Preparing soil
    • Planting of native plants
  • Native plant boxes
    • Assembly of bench style flower boxes
    • Preparing boxes with soil
    • Planting of native plants
  • Walking trail area
    • Gazebo
    • Interruptive signs for plants and trees
    • Identification signs for Scrub Jays and Blue Jays
  • More to come

We are still in the planning stages at the time this article was written, so there is no telling what we have come up with. Chris Fox of Parrish informed me that we do not have to worry about funding as he will find the funds for the project. The over all plan is to help bring a sense of peace for the medical center's patients by bringing them closer to nature. There have been studies done that have shown that getting out in nature is a way to relieve stress and we all know how stressful a doctors visit can be. If you would like to help out feel free to contact me. We can use all the help we can get. 321-449-9678 or heyyoukidd@yahoo.com.
