SCAS Board Elections
By Jason Frederick, President SCAS
At our April meeting, we elected our officers for the coming year. Jim Meyer, one of our Co-Vice Presidents, has come to the end of his term limits and his position was filled by our newest board member, Ken Collins. I have agreed to another term as chapter President. Kathy Frederick, Co-vice President, was elected to a second term. Sarah Linney was elected for a second year as Treasurer, and Madeline Klinko was also-re-elected as Secretary. Hopefully many of our board members will continue on for another term. They have all done a great job and they have made me proud to serve with them.
Maureen Rupe, our chapter Environmental Chair person, will not be able to continue on as a board member because she is running for the County Commission District 1 Seat. Our chapter is unable to endorse politicians, but I would like to wish her all the best and hope she is successful in her run for this important position. With that being said, we are now going to need to fill her position as well.
Jim Durocher and Ken Collins are the two newest additions to our board. Jim Durocher has agreed to assist the Environmental Chair. I hope you will thank them for joining the board.
We are also in the need of a new field trip coordinator. I will be able to lead 2-3 field trips a month, but other field trip leaders are also needed. I have held the position of Field Trip Coordinator and Field Trip Leader since 2003. I need a break. I have given nearly every weekend of every month from September thru May of every year since 2003 and now I must have somebody else take up the position. I will assist the new Coordinator to contact field trip leaders and to help arrange field trips. If you would like to help me out by filling this position, I will make sure to make your job as easy as possible because you will be doing me such a huge favor.
If you would like to run for an officer position or help on the board, please contact me or another board member.
Editors note: In addition to board member positions, we are also in desperate need of regular, reliable contributors to the Limpkin. We currently have one regular columnist, Dave Freeland, to whom I am incredibly grateful for his wonderful contributions. However, one reliable columnist cannot fill 8 pages every month; we really need more contributions. As we are in an election year, it's especially important that we are all up to date on current political and environmental issues; it would be great if we could get someone to cover important county meetings for us. I would also really like to stockpile non-time dependent articles; it would be great if you could write about your favorite bird, or bird seed, or even some short fiction. The deadline for the Limpkin is ALWAYS the third Friday of the month. Please send any submissions to the editor, Dee Fairbanks Simpson (deefairbanks@mac.com). Plain text (email) is preferred, but I can accept Word, PDF, or RTF attachments. |
