Team Bird Year Update
By Jim Meyer
First of all, I hope you will be able to attend their presentation and celebrate their arrival in Brevard County at the Cape Canaveral Library on March 15 at 10 a.m. The Library is on Polk Av. just one block East of A1A and the Cape Canaveral City Hall.
The TBY arrived in Florida on January 24 after being on the road over 7 months covering around 8,000 miles! Their first nite in Florida was less than glorious since they had to camp in a cemetery due to a malfunction on their trailer and some other trying circumstances! See their January 24 blog for the whole story!
After arriving in Cape Canaveral, TBY will be biking out to the KSC Visitors Information Center on the morning of March 14 for a tour of the Space Center in an electric PT Cruiser. Hopefully, the Warblers will be at Lori Wilson Park and we can add a few species to their existing 445 species (as of 2/5). Come join them, if their schedule allows, at the scheduled SCAS trip to L. Wilson on Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
SCAS donated $50 to their Bird Conservation Fund and received a beautiful DVD made in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge entitled "Malkolm the Birder Boy". Anyone wishing to support their Fund can donate at the presentation or see www.birdyear.com for online support. Also, you can do your own "fossil-fuel free" bird day and support the BIRD DAY CHALLENGE in your own way. Click on "Bird Day Challenge" on their website for ideas. I hope to see you at the Cape Canaveral Library on Saturday March 15 for their fantastic, I know, presentation.
