EELs Program Thanks Doug Stuckey

By Judy Gregoire, North Area Land Manager, Environmentally Endangered Lands Program

The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program North Region staff would like to thank Doug Stuckey for his assistance over the course of the past year with a year-long bird survey at the South Lake Conservation Area in Mims. Doug joined EEL Program staff one day each month in the early hours of the morning to identify and count the species they observed. The current bird count for this 155-acre upland Sanctuary includes 55 species. Doug’s knowledge was an invaluable tool throughout the entire monitoring process. This bird survey is one of many monitoring programs that will be conducted at the Sanctuary by EEL Program staff and volunteers to assess the biological diversity of the area so that changes in diversity can be tracked over time. If you are interested in volunteering with the EEL Program to assist throughout the North Region with future bird, mammal, herpetile, or plant surveys, please contact Xavier de Seguin des Hons at the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary at xdeseguin@brevardparks.com or 264-5185.
