South Brevard CBC

By Roy Book

Many thanks to all of you for making this year’s South Brevard CBC a success! The final tally being submitted is 158 species on count day, plus 2 count-week-only species. The Golden Eagle, Eared Grebe and Rudy Ducks were first time species for this 40th anniversary count held on December 30th. Other birds of note were a Snow Goose, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Broad-tailed Hawks, 6 Great-crested Flycatchers, one Black-throated Green Warbler and a Henslow’s Sparrow. The total of 50,942 individual birds seen this year is an astounding number.

If you were a participant and would like a copy of the compiled list submitted from the 14 teams, send me an email and I will snail-mail you a copy.

I also would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for the reception and service (or lack of) some of you received at the post-count dinner. We have used this location for our tally meeting for years and usually received good service, but since it had changed owners, we decided to take a chance. Apparently this was a mistake! There will be some changes for the next CBC.

Please mark December 29 on your calendars for the 2007 South Brevard CBC. See you at the next count and good birding.
