WANTED
People: Alive and Thinking
By Betty McKeown
Space Coast Audubon has issued a wanted poster for the following board positions being vacated at the end of May:
President: Someone who can lead, delegate, follow-up, act as liaison with other environmental groups, take criticism, cajole, beg, threaten, plead, and somehow get others to take on responsibility for a smooth-running organization that protects the environment, is the voice for birds and animals in trying to save their habitat, and of course good joke telling isn’t a bad trait.
Secretary: Someone who is willing to attend meetings and listen to others conversations, concisely interrupting what was just said and writing it down, only to be read years from now and hopefully still make sense of what we were engaged in fighting for the environment. You also get to speak up at meetings and volunteer to help with other Chapter activities.
Education: Someone who has time and interest in educating the public about what Space Coast Audubon tries to do - having fun, making friends and enemies, coming up with ideas for projects/activities to educate school children and adults about nature. You must be willing to attend festivals and meetings, carry out ideas presented to you by other officers of the Space Coast Audubon Chapter, as well as, come up with innovative ideas of your own.
The Chapter Bylaws stipulate the time frame officers can serve and fatigue sets in after a certain length of time and hours of meetings, so it is necessary that others step up to fill these officer positions.
Betty McKeown is the Chapter representative on the Nominating Committee and needs two other people from the general membership to volunteer to help find quality people to fill these positions. Call Betty at 407-892-6598 or e-mail her at mckeown@kua.net if you want to serve on the board or on the nominating committee. Remember we are counting on you! |
