Florida Ornithological Society Fall Meeting

By Sarah Linney

Our chapter is hosting the field trips for the Florida Ornithological Society (FOS) meeting this fall. The meeting will be in Titusville at the Best Western Space Shuttle Inn during the weekend of October 27-29. Please mark your calendars!

The field trips for the weekend will be a short version of Doug Stuckey's North Brevard Hotspots, with special access to the new EELs Indian Mound Station Sanctuary, Jason Frederick and Jim Meyer at Jetty Park and the Canaveral Locks for birds and some space program history, Laurilee Thompson and Sarah Linney at Tosahatchee, MINWR with a MIWA volunteer (destination TBA), Blue Heron/Great Outdoors with Lora Heyden, Viera Wetlands with Dave Freeland and Murray Gardler, and a Sunday goodie up to Smyrna Dunes with Andy Bankert and Murray Gardler.

The Scientific Session on Saturday looks very interesting with several shorebird and wading bird topics; and capping the evening will be a Social and Banquet at (of course) Dixie Crossroads with David Breininger giving the evening presentation on Florida Scrub-jays. Hope you all will join us. For more information and registration forms, visit the FOS website at http://www.fosbirds.org and follow the link to the 2006 Fall Meeting.
