President's Message

By Sarah Linney, SCAS President

Wow. Another fiscal year is nearly gone; summer is just around the corner. Jason will actually have some free weekends to do all those household things he's been avoiding by leading field trips! Dee won't have to beg us for articles for the Limpkin for several months (but that doesn't mean you can't send some in anyway!) I won't have to worry about meeting agendas and Betty gets time off from recording the minutes. But I'm sure Jim and Jason are already thinking of program topics and field trips for next year, and would appreciate any input you might have. Jim is still working hard to make the Lock's Viewing Platform a reality and we'll try to keep you posted either by e-mail or possibly with updates on the chapter website.

I would like to personally thank all the people who volunteered their time this year for Refreshments, the CBC Potluck, the Spaghetti Dinner, and manning our booth at all the events. Pat and Bill Meyer, thank you to for continuing to be Chapter Historians; and to Lyn Thornewell for keeping up with the meeting refreshments this year. I would especially like to thank Carroll Holland and Bob Brown (and his staff) for getting the Spaghetti Dinner organized--it was another glowing success thanks to them and all involved!

Many thanks are due to the entire Board of Directors, all ten, plus a hard-working Laurilee who is always there in spirit even when other duties prevent her from attending the meetings. However, it is with great sorrow, but understanding, that I bid farewell to Tom Atkinson from his active roll as Treasurer these last two years with me, as he is retiring from the Board. (Enjoy your travels abroad!!) I also bid farewell to another stalwart member of the board, former VP and current newsletter editor Dee Fairbanks SimpsonÑyou had to go and move to Fellsmere, didn't you?!?

So I'm warming up to this: Including the newly elected treasurer, we are down to eight board members total (unless someone else leaves), with essentially no conservation chair and no committee members whatsoever. Where are we going and how are we going to get there? Can you help?

Please be safe getting to wherever you might be going this summer and please have fun while you're there! See you at the potluck and auction!
