The Cocoa Christmas Bird Count was held Saturday, December 17, and produced 168 species, 11 more than last year. Included was a count-first Ross' Goose, on the Sheriff's Farm, end of Pluckebaum Road, West Cocoa, a nice adult bird well photographed. Also seen were Smooth-billed Ani, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Tennessee Warbler, a Red-cockaded Woodpecker in an unexpected golf course setting and a female Bullock's Oriole was seen by David and Dee Fairbanks Simpson in woods at the intersection of Dixon Boulevard and River Road, north of Cocoa Village.
