Meet the SCAS Board
Name: Thomas H. Atkinson
- Position on Board: Treasurer, Membership, and immediate past president
- Length of time on board: Seven years
- Why I joined the board: One night following a general meeting, Ralph Bird, then president, lamented the fact that he had no one to take charge of the checkbook, pay the bills and make reports to the chapter. I merely said that, "I know how to do that" and the rest is history.
- Best life bird: Hoatzin (in the Peru Amazon) Second Best: Purple-throated Cotinga (in the same area)
- An interesting fact about me: I retired from a career in the administration of Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, in 1989 and have spent the time since learning about the out-of-doors here in Florida.
Name: Jim Stahl
- Position on Board: Board Member
- Length of time on board:In second year
- Why I joined the board: I volunteered for the board to meet local birders, learn from them, and to help with natural resource conservation locally.
- Best life bird: How can you pick only one? One would be the mangrove cuckoo - it took many years to get one. After many vacation trips, spending four winters on Pine Island (the one near Cape Coral), I finally found one on Sugarloaf Key.
- An interesting fact about me: I spent my entire professional career of 35 years as the natural resource manager for an Ohio park district that grew to over 20,000 acres and taught for 25 years as an adjunct professor of life science at Otterbein College before retiring to the sunshine state.
Meet the rest of the board!
