Audubon Academy

By Joyce King

With Florida’s natural lands undergoing rapid conversion to housing developments, golf courses, shopping malls, and roads, Audubon chapters have their work cut out for them. While we cannot stop growth, it is possible for us to influence how growth is managed, which natural lands are protected, make sure our air and water are clean and safe, and protect wildlife.

The goal of the first Audubon Academy is to strengthen chapters by training current and future leaders. Being part of an effective chapter can provide great personal enjoyment and satisfaction. It affords you an opportunity to enjoy our environment with new depth and understanding. Audubon Academy was conceived and organized by chapters for chapters; however, Audubon and National leaders will also participate.

Audubon Academy will be held at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, March 18 through 20. St. Petersburg Audubon will pay the $25 registration fee for some members who want to learn more about Audubon, meet Audubon state staff, and are willing to participate in chapter activities.

Check out the workshop offerings and schedules at www.audubonofflorida.org/chapters, and download the registration form.
