Ghost Crabs in the Church

By Charlie Venuto

At our next general meeting scheduled for 7:30 on October 15, Dr. Richard Turner, Professor of Invertebrate Biology at the Florida Institute of Technology will present his findings on fossilized ghost crabs collected from the beaches of Brevard County.

Dr. Turner and his colleagues collected and studied over 500 fossilized ghost crab specimens. Specimens were discovered in a variety of conditions. Some are very rock like with little outward crablike appearance. Others appear very crab like. Some of the specimens are estimated at over 110,000 years old. Don’t let the ghost crabs spook you this Halloween, join us in welcoming our special guest to our October meeting.
