Eagle Watch Resolution
The following is the complete text of the County Commissioners
resolution recognizing our Eagle Watch program. Brevard County Board
of County Commissioners Resolution.
WHEREAS: Audubon Eagle Watch seeks information about bald eagles,
including active nest locations and possible disturbances or threats
to nesting activities; and
WHEREAS: Eagle Watch program is designed to educate volunteer participants
in general eagle nesting biology and applicable laws, and includes
training in the identification of nest threats, monitoring techniques,
and the verification of previously unrecorded active eagle nests;
and
WHEREAS: data compiled by Eagle Watch is used to assist The State’s
Mid-Winter Annual Bald Eagle Nesting Survey by documenting both
urban and rural eagle nesting activities, successes, and failures;
and
WHEREAS: the Audubon Eagle Watch program started in 1992 in the
Central Florida region with only twenty-two volunteers, and is now
statewide with 227 volunteers monitoring over twenty percent of
the nesting eagle population, and these volunteers report an average
of six unrecorded nests each season; and
WHEREAS: Eagle Watch is reaching more communities and continues
to heighten awareness of bald eagle nesting activities throughout
the year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF BREVARD DCOUNTY, FLORIDA, does hereby recognize
EAGLE WATCH VOLUNTEER OF BREVARD COUNTY
For their outstanding contribution on behalf of the great symbol
of our nation—the Bald Eagle.
DONE, ORDERED AND ADOPTED, in regular session this 13th day of
April 2004.
