Florida Native Plant Society Welcomes Roger Hammer to April Meeting

By Travis MacClendon

The Conradina and the Sea Rocket chapters of the Florida Native Plant Society as well as Brevard County Parks and Recreation will jointly sponsor a Native Plant meeting on Monday, April 12, at the Viera Government Center, Bldg C, 3rd Floor, in the Florida Room, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The nascent living legend Roger Hammer, a native Floridian and originally from Cocoa Beach, will be our guest speaker. Roger is the author of two books, Everglades Wildlflowers and Florida Keys Wildflowers, the latter not yet distributed. He has received the Marjory Stoneman Douglas award for service and the Charles Brookfield Medal for protection of our natural resources. Ask him about sleeping in a hammock in the middle of the Fakahatchee Swamp or about his appearance in the best selling book (now a movie), The Orchid Thief. Don’t miss this one. Native plants will be given away as door prizes, and refreshments will be served. Call Win (723-1244) or Karen (727-0052) for more information.
