First Annual Florida
Authors Day at Forever Florida
By
Margaret R Broussard
On Saturday, April 3, Forever Florida will hold it’s first
annual Authors Day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event will consist
of a broad spectrum of Florida authors presenting Florida history
and natural history. The keynote address, “The Next Florida,”
will be by Al Burt, author of five books including “Becalmed
in the Mullet Latitudes” and “The Tropic of Cracker”.
Al Burt is the recipient of many national and state awards
for his newspaper writing, including the first annual Al Burt Award
for environmental journalism.
Jim Robison, journalist for Orlando Sentinel, will discuss his
newest book, “Kissimmee: Gateway to the Kissimmee River Valley”,
as well as his other books on communities in Orange, Seminole and
Osceola Counties.
Dr. Don Argo, Professor of Mathematics at Brevard Community College,
will share his research of the history of Florida’s East Coast
for his novel, Canaveral Light.
Dr. Walter Taylor, Associate Chair and Professor of Biology UCF,
is the author of two widely used books on Florida Wildflowers. He
will dress as Andre Michaux, the French Royal Botanist for Louis
XVI, to present his biography of Michaux, who explored Florida in
the late 18th Century, discovering and naming many plants.
Drs. Richard and Juanita Baker will present their beautiful new
book, Reflections on Blue Cypress, with their gorgeous photographs
and her evocative poetry.
Admission is $5/person or $10/car, and $8 for a barbecue lunch.
Forever Florida is located 7 miles south of Holopaw on US 441.
