IRAS Needs Volunteers

By Dee Fairbanks

Indian River Audubon is looking for volunteers. Our most immediate needs are:

  • New board members; we specifically have an immediate, urgent need for people for our membership committee.
  • Creative, energetic people to participate in our other committees including education, fund raising, and conservation.
  • Politically active and aware people who attend local government meetings and can help keep the rest of us informed by attending board meetings, sending e-mail messages to our online mailing list, and writing timely articles for the Limpkin. It is vitally important that we keep tabs on what goes on in the local government, let the politicians know that we are watching, and spread the word to those who cannot attend!
  • Good writers to contribute to the Limpkin. In addition to the political articles mentioned above, our readers really enjoy reading about your birding adventures and advice. Got a favorite bird that you know how to attract? Do you know any tricks for identifying certain types of birds? Let your fellow Audubon members know! The Limpkin deadline for each month is the third Friday of the month, scheduled to conveniently coincide with the monthly general meeting. You don’t have to sign up to write something every month, but I appreciate every article I can get. Occasionally I edit articles for length or have to hold one back until the next month, but I have not rejected an article yet!

If you can help by participating on a committee, contact a current board member as listed in the Limpkin. If you would like to submit articles to the Limpkin, please send an e-mail message to Dee Fairbanks (deefairbanks@yahoo.com) or give her a call (537-9270) to discuss any potential articles.

A wise man, (I believe it was Mr. Tom Atkinson), once said, “This is your Audubon!” Let’s all work together to make it the best that we all can be!
