Space Coast Wildlife and Birding Festival

By Tom Atkinson, President

I hope everyone got to go on the field trips and informative seminars of their choice at the Festival. It was great seeing so many birding enthusiasts in one place. At one time or another they all stopped by the IRAS both to exchange experiences and renew old acquaintances. Our booth was open every day of the festival except Sunday. The purpose of having an IRAS booth at the festival is to show our support for the festival and to encourage new Audubon memberships.

I would like to thank Susan Bird and Dee Fairbanks for their participation in maintaining the booth. But particular thanks have to go to Betty Eichhorn for her contribution of a passel of used books. The used books were our largest single source of revenue. ($61 on Thursday, $89 on Friday, and $68 on Saturday for a total of $218 gross). All of the books were about nature and the environment but the most popular of all were the bird identification books. They sold out in the first half hour of the first day. I’ll have to review my pricing structure next time!
