Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area Field Trip

Tom Ledford will be leading a Space Coast Audubon field trip, Sunday, March 31, 2019, to Three Lakes WMA, for Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Bachman’s Sparrow, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Eastern Bluebird and Pine Warbler. Lake Marian Marina for Limpkin, Bonaparte’s Gull, Purple Gallinule and American White Pelican. From there, off to Joe Overstreet Rd for Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern Meadowlark. Next stop will be lunch on beautiful Lake Kissimmee where we may see Snail Kite sand Limpkins. We will also be on the lookout for Bald Eagle and Crested Caracara throughout the day. The park charges $3 per person or $6 per carload. This trip will require some easy walking. There are onsite bathrooms at several locations
This will be an all day trip so bring lunch, drinks, snacks, sunscreen and bug spray (optional). Wear appropriate clothes based on the weather and wear comfortable footwear. We will meet at Sam’s Club in Melbourne on 192 near I 95, Exit 180 (4255 W. New Haven Ave. Melbourne) and leave at 5:30 am sharp. When car pooling, it is customary to provide gas money to the driver to help with their expense of driving.
If you would like to meet the group at the wildlife management area, use the directions below
1. Travel west on FL 192 for 24 miles,
2. Turn left onto FL 441 ( That is Holloway Rd, and it turns changes to Kenansville Rd) and travel 20 miles,
3. Turn right onto S. Canoe Creek Rd. and travel about 9.5 miles.
The entrance to the campground is on the left.
There is no street address for that entrance that I can find.
There is an entrance fee; $3.00 per person or $6.00 per car if there is more than one passenger.
We hope that if you can find S. Canoe Rd with your GPS ,you can find us regardless of where you start.
The group should arrive at the WMA between 6:45 AM and 7:00 AM.
