Sam’s House Owl Prowl Field Trip

March 18, 2017 @ 2:15 pm - 4:30 pm

The field trip will begin at 6:15 PM on March 18, 2017 at the historic Sams House at Pine Island Conservation Area located at 6195 N. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL

Our group will be led on an easy hike (in darkness) of approximately 1 mile to discover the wonders of night time hunters and flyers, the owls. The greeting committee on the trail includes Boots, a great horned owl, and Dora, an Eastern Screech owl, who are the rehabilitation wards of Susan Boorse. The expedition will continue when we set off on a nocturnal observation journey in search of resident Barred Owls and other creatures of the night. Our group will listen for the distinctive call of the Barred Owl, and others, while searching the overhead branches for signs of movement, flight, and nighttime activity. This Owl Prowl is exclusively for our group to explore the Sams House trails after dark. Following the hike we’ll gather around a campfire to enjoy some s’mores, owl raffles and birding stories. The courtesy of a RSVP by 15 March is appreciated for logistics planning. Please email [email protected] iIf our group is > 25 attendees the Sanctuary will designate a second field guide. The private tour is being provided to our group at no charge. The gift shop will be open and purchases help support the sanctuary.

Planning: Bring a flashlight, mosquito repellent, jacket and comfortable walking shoes
What’s Included: S’mores and Owl themed prizes
