Monthly Meeting – John James Audubon’s Time In Florida

Join David Simpson and Dee Fairbanks-Simpson as they share stories and highlights from John James Audubon’s time in Florida, particularly the time he spent in the St. Augustine area awaiting passage to Key West. Much of his time was spent on the Bulow Plantation in what is now Flagler County. Audubon described five new species on his visit including caracara and Redpoll Warbler (Palm Warbler.) In addition to hunting and painting birds, he spent time with and wrote essays about the “Live Oakers” who wintered in the area, describing their lives and misadventures.
