Bats, Birders, and Bonfires

March 9, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Please join us for an evening of bats and bonfires, enjoyed by birders. We’ll gather in the Sams House classroom pavilion for a presentation by Shari from the Florida Bat Conservancy. Participants can get up close and personal with some of the rescue bats Shari will show us as she shares interesting bat facts and dispels some myths. Following the presentation we’ll hike the trails to look and listen for bats at dusk. On our hike we will also have the opportunity to check the bat houses and hopefully observe some of their nightly lodgers. After the hike we’ll gather around the bonfire for bat chat while enjoying s’mores and hot dogs over the fire. Junior birders and young nature enthusiasts are welcome to join. Please include the total# in your party when RSVP-ing. Bat themed door prizes and raffles will be drawn for active participants, so be sure to bring your bat questions. Contact Rochelle Hood at [email protected] if you have any questions. Please bring a flashlight, wear comfortable walking shoes with ankle length or higher socks, and a jacket in case temperatures drop. The Chapter will provide all the supplies for the s’mores, hotdogs and drinks by the bonfire.
